ecomuseo della montagna pistoiese

Born by the will of the Province of Pistoia and active since 1990, the Ecomuseo della Montagna Pistoiese was the first Ecomuseum in Italy; an innovative project, awarded with a gold plate in Parma as the best example of valorisation of the Apennines. Over the course of twenty years it has developed and expanded to an almost definitive structure; since November 2011 it has been managed by the Ecomuseo della Montagna Pistoiese Association, based in Gavinana, in the historic Palazzo Achilli. The Ecomuseum takes you at a slow pace to discover testimonies and traditions, which tell centuries of history and man's work on the Pistoia Mountains, where particular environmental and historical factors have affected the economy and culture of the inhabitants. Ironworks, water mills, iceboxes and an extraordinary naturalistic heritage await you, to involve you in the authentic dimension of the past, in a continuous journey between present and past. The Ecomuseum is divided into six itineraries: Ice, Iron, Sacred Art, Daily Life, Nature and Stone, including museums, outdoor routes, educational centers and historical artifacts that allow you to get to know the Pistoia mountains. through the marks left by the relationship between man and the environment over centuries of history.
